Umbra Takes Down Front-End Website Amid Hacker Activity
Umbra, a privacy-focused cryptocurrency protocol, has taken its front-end website offline in response to hackers using the platform to move approximately $800,000 in stolen funds. The decision is intended to make it more difficult for attackers to use the hosted interface while recovery efforts continue.
The move comes after reports emerged that funds from recent high-profile hacks had moved through Umbra's system. The protocol's team stated that taking down the front-end was a way to slow activity linked to the attackers, allowing investigators to work on recovering the assets.
Umbra emphasized that its smart contracts remain live on-chain and cannot be disabled by the project. Users can still access the open-source code through local or self-hosted versions, although the protocol noted that this would not prevent alternative methods of access.
