Iran's Crypto Exchange Links to Supreme Leader's Family Uncovered
Nobitex, Iran's largest cryptocurrency exchange, has been at the center of a recent investigation by Reuters. The report reveals that the exchange's founders, Ali and Mohammad Kharrazi, used an alias 'Aghamir' to obscure their ties to the Kharrazi dynasty, a lineage with deep connections to Iran's political leadership.
The Kharrazi family has been linked to several high-ranking government officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and his son Mojtaba Khamenei. The investigation suggests that Nobitex has played a significant role in facilitating cryptocurrency transactions for millions of users in Iran, despite the country's strict sanctions regime.
On-chain analytics have identified significant outflows and suspect transfers linked to sanctioned entities, with estimates suggesting over $366 million in suspicious activity. Additionally, Iranian central bank wallets have been linked to Nobitex, with hundreds of millions of dollars transferred to the exchange in 2025.
