Bitcoin Kidnap Plot Organizer Faces Up to 20 Years in Prison
Saif Faiq has admitted to conspiring with others to interfere with commerce by robbery, a federal offense that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
According to court documents, Faiq and his brother Adam Iza orchestrated the plan to abduct Sushil and Radhika Chetal in Danbury, Connecticut. The parents of Veer Chetal, a participant in a large-scale cryptocurrency theft involving roughly 4,100 Bitcoin, were targeted.
The six men involved in the operation were recruited by Faiq from Florida and helped to coordinate surveillance of the intended victims before the attack. After forcing the occupants out of their vehicle, the assailants assaulted them with a baseball bat and briefly held them captive.
