Trump Sets 2031 Deadline for US to Adopt Post-Quantum Cryptography Standards

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed two executive orders to accelerate America's quantum innovation and protect against quantum computing threats.

The first order, 'Securing the Nation Against Advanced Cryptographic Attacks,' addresses the risks posed by large-scale quantum computers to current encryption standards.

The order directs federal agencies to transition key information systems and high-value assets to NIST-approved Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) for Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC).

High-impact systems are required to adopt PQC for digital signatures by the end of 2031, while key establishment must be migrated to PQC by the end of 2030.
