G7 Warns of North Korea Crypto Threat Amid $2.02 Billion Hack
G7 leaders have issued a fresh warning about North Korea's cryptocurrency thefts and cybercrimes, linking them to the country's wider nuclear and missile concerns.
The statement, released after the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, called for joint action against North Korea's crypto-related activities. However, it did not specify new sanctions or enforcement tools.
According to Chainalysis, North Korean hackers stole at least $2.02 billion in cryptocurrency in 2025 alone, pushing the all-time total linked to DPRK actors to at least $6.75 billion. This has raised concerns about the funding of North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.
The G7 statement follows years of reports that North Korea-linked hackers use stolen crypto to raise money under heavy sanctions. Western governments and blockchain analytics firms have long tied this activity to Pyongyang's wider weapons program.
