US-Iran Deal Could Unlock Iran's Oil Exports with Crypto Sanctions Loophole
The United States and Iran have reportedly agreed on a draft memorandum of understanding (MOU) that would see Tehran dilute its stockpile of highly enriched uranium under international supervision. The agreement, which covers Iran's nuclear program, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and sanctions exemptions, includes a proposal for Iran to dilute its 440 kg of uranium enriched to 60% on its own soil rather than exporting it.
The draft MOU proposes a 60-day negotiation window to finalize the details, including inspections and limitations on Iran's nuclear capabilities. The timeline is tied to the US lifting its blockade posture around the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian officials have framed the dilution approach as a diplomatic resolution that preserves sovereignty, while US representatives view the framework as a pathway toward eventually dismantling Iran's nuclear capabilities with long-term verification mechanisms baked in.
