Clarity Act Proposes Sweeping Crypto Regulation Changes
The US Senate Republicans have unveiled the Clarity Act, a landmark cryptocurrency bill aimed at establishing a comprehensive regulatory framework for digital assets.
The legislation seeks to clearly define the roles of US financial regulators overseeing the rapidly growing crypto industry, encouraging wider adoption while strengthening investor protections and regulatory oversight.
One of the bill's most closely watched provisions would prohibit senior political leaders from issuing or sponsoring digital assets until January 2029, a measure championed by Senate Democrats seeking stronger safeguards against public officials benefiting financially through personal cryptocurrency ventures.
The legislation would also introduce new rules governing rewards offered on dollar-backed cryptocurrencies known as stablecoins, prohibiting rewards on idle balances but permitting incentives linked to transaction-based activities.
