Wrench Attack Indictment Follows Data Breach Exposing Crypto Holdings

A 32-year-old man has been indicted in Nancy, France over a 'wrench attack' that targeted a couple's cryptocurrency holdings. The attackers allegedly posed as police officers to gain entry and steal around $20,000 in crypto.

The incident follows a January data breach at French crypto tax platform Waltio, which exposed the personal information of approximately 50,000 users. The hackers behind the breach attempted to extort Waltio before selling the stolen data, warning that attackers could pose as fake customer services or police officers to carry out phishing attempts and scams.

The 'wrench attack' in Nancy is one of several recent cases of physical attacks on cryptocurrency holders in France. In March, a couple was forced to transfer $1 million in Bitcoin after three men posing as police entered their home and threatened them with a knife.
