Tether Invests Heavily in Brazil's Growing Blockchain Market

Tether has made a strategic investment of $20 million in Mercado Bitcoin, a Brazilian blockchain-based financial services platform. This move is part of Tether's broader strategy to support regulated platforms in high-growth markets.

Mercado Bitcoin, founded in São Paulo in 2013, has grown from a cryptocurrency exchange into a full-stack on-chain financial services platform serving 4.5 million users. It holds over 10 licenses across Brazil and Europe, including a payment institution license from Brazil's central bank.

The company plans to use the investment to expand its payments infrastructure, scale tokenized investment offerings, grow its lending and credit business, and advance on-chain capital markets.
