South Korean Police Chief Bribed by Crypto Fraud Suspects
A South Korean court has handed down a six-year prison sentence to a former police chief in connection with a high-profile crypto fraud investigation. The officer, who was responsible for investigating major economic crime cases, including crypto fraud, accepted bribes from suspects while he was overseeing the case.
According to court documents, the officer received a total of 120 million won from suspects between December 2023 and March 2024. This included 50 million won in cash and 70 million won in entertainment expenses.
The officer's behavior has been strongly criticized by the court, which stated that he treated his authority as personal power and enjoyed luxury entertainment without feeling guilt, even while meeting with people who were under active investigation.
