White House Leaves Crypto Czar Position Vacant Amid Shift in Policy Focus
The White House has faced criticism after announcing the departure of David Sacks, who held the position of crypto czar for 130 days. Sacks' exit, which was not a resignation or termination, leaves the position vacant without a replacement planned.
According to sources, Sacks had reached his limit as a special government employee under federal law, which caps service at 130 days within a 12-month period.
The departure of Sacks coincides with the appointment of Vice President JD Vance as 'Fraud Czar' by President Donald Trump. The move aims to target taxpayer fraud in blue states, including California, Illinois, New York, Minnesota, and Maine.
As a result of Sacks' exit, federal crypto policy is now without a dedicated advocate at a critical legislative moment. This has raised concerns about the future of key legislation, such as the CLARITY Act and broader crypto market structure bill.
