US Government Contractor Arrested for Alleged $46M Crypto Theft
A joint international law enforcement operation has led to the arrest of a US government contractor accused of stealing over $46 million in cryptocurrency from the US Marshals Service. The arrest was made in Saint Martin by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) working alongside France's elite law enforcement units, including the French Gendarmerie Nationale and its tactical force.
The operation involved coordination between the FBI and the French Gendarmerie's International Cooperation Team Serious Crime Unit in Saint Martin, as well as tactical support from the Gendarmerie unit based in Guadeloupe. The alleged theft highlights the ongoing threat of cryptocurrency-based crimes, which continue to pose a significant challenge for law enforcement agencies.
Authorities have not yet disclosed details about how the alleged theft occurred or when the funds were taken. It is also unclear whether the stolen cryptocurrency has been recovered. The suspect, John Daghita, is expected to face further legal proceedings as authorities coordinate next steps following his detention in Saint Martin.
