TRM Labs Introduces AI Agent to Boost Crypto Crime Investigations
TRM Labs has made a significant addition to its services for law enforcement agencies with the introduction of an AI agent. The agent is embedded in the TRM Forensics service, which provides analytical tools to investigators.
The AI agent allows users to input natural language prompts, which are then translated into complex investigative actions. This innovation is expected to speed up the process of tracking down cryptocurrency-related crimes, which have seen a sharp acceleration in recent times.
Illicit crypto volume reached a record $158 billion last year, according to analysis from TRM Labs. The company's head of legal and government affairs, Ari Redbord, notes that the caseload is growing faster than the workforce, with investigators being asked to operate across multiple blockchains, jurisdictions, and typologies.
Redbord highlights the importance of using AI tools in this context, particularly given the rise of AI-enabled fraud and scams. TRM Labs data shows a 500% increase in such crimes, which are becoming increasingly sophisticated with the use of automation, deepfakes, and AI-driven tools.
