Nium Expands Stablecoin Payments Stack with Cypher Acquisition
Nium, a cross-border payments firm, has acquired Cypher, a crypto-native non-custodial wallet and card issuing startup. The deal brings Kuberan Marimuthu, founder of Cypher, into Nium as vice president of digital assets.
The acquisition adds wallet and card infrastructure to Nium's stablecoin payments stack. This move follows Nium's April integration with Coinbase, which enabled USDC payments and fiat payouts for banks, fintechs, and enterprise clients across its global network.
Nium has been expanding its stablecoin infrastructure this year, launching a stablecoin card issuance platform in March. The company's existing rails cover payouts, card issuance, FX, and compliance infrastructure, while Cypher's product history sits closer to the user side of crypto spending.
