Helius Acquires Light Protocol to Enhance Solana's On-Chain Privacy Capabilities
Helius, a leading provider of RPC and blockchain infrastructure services on the Solana network, has made a significant acquisition to enhance its capabilities. The company has acquired Light Protocol, a team that has been working on foundational zero-knowledge cryptography for Solana.
The integration of Light Protocol's technology is expected to bring about a major improvement in the scalability of the Solana network. ZK Compression, one of the key technologies developed by Light Protocol, reduces state storage costs by up to 1,000x. This reduction in costs can have a significant impact on the economics of building on Solana.
The acquisition is also expected to make Solana more attractive to traditional finance institutions, which operate under strict regulatory requirements around data protection and client confidentiality. By adding a native privacy layer to its infrastructure stack, Helius aims to position itself as a one-stop shop for Solana developers.
