Coinbase Report Highlights Algorand and Aptos' Quantum Computing Preparations
A recent report by Coinbase has shed light on the efforts of two layer-1 blockchains, Algorand and Aptos, in preparing their networks against potential threats from quantum computing. According to the report, these blockchains are making significant strides in ensuring the security of their networks against the emerging technology.
Algorand has a 'staged roadmap toward full quantum readiness' and is among the first networks to have deployed cryptography designed to be secure against quantum computers. The blockchain has already completed its first quantum-resistant transaction on mainnet, but block proposals and committee voting mechanisms remain vulnerable to quantum attacks, which Algorand is researching ways to secure.
Aptos is also 'well positioned for the transition to post-quantum secure transactions', according to Coinbase. Users can become post-quantum secure by signing a transaction that updates their authentication key to a post-quantum public key, without needing to move assets to a new account.
