Buterin Unveils Lean Ethereum Roadmap with Quantum Safety in Mind

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has unveiled a long-term roadmap for the network's development, dubbed 'Lean Ethereum'. The plan prioritizes quantum resistance, scalability, and privacy, with a focus on improving the network's security and user experience.

The roadmap, which is expected to roll out over the next three to four years, will affect nearly every layer of the Ethereum network. Buterin emphasized that the upgrade effort is comparable in magnitude to the 2022 'Merge', which transitioned the network from energy-intensive mining.

One key aspect of the plan is the need for quantum-safe solutions related to 'blobs', a component of Ethereum's scaling design. Buterin stressed that arriving at such an approach has become urgent, as it would reduce the risk of future quantum computing advances undermining cryptographic assumptions used across parts of the system.
