Web3 Venture Capital Faces Differentiation Challenge
The Web3 venture capital industry is in need of innovation, as it struggles to differentiate itself from other emerging managers. According to studies, these newer funds have been shown to outperform established ones, reaching top-quartile performance more often and delivering higher returns on average.
However, the problem lies not with their performance, but rather with how they communicate their value proposition. With every fund claiming to have strong relationships and add value beyond capital, the industry is plagued by a differentiation problem.
To overcome this issue, some new VC firms are building infrastructure and creating platforms that provide utility beyond just providing capital. This approach is yielding results, as evidenced by the success of TBV, Outlier Ventures, and Paradigm, which have developed unique models that set them apart from traditional funds.
