Lee Unveils Mega Projects to Boost Semiconductors and AI
South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has unveiled three mega projects in semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI), aiming to boost domestic investment sentiment. The projects were announced at a public briefing titled 'National Report on South Korea's Three Mega Projects for a Great Leap Forward' held at the Blue House state guest house.
Lee thanked corporate leaders for committing to invest, saying the government's role is to help companies invest under better conditions through government support. He stressed cooperation between the government and industry, stating that he would oversee the three mega projects directly and place a supervised official inside the Blue House for this purpose.
The attendees included 30 people from various sectors, including economic ministers, heads of public institutions, and executives from major companies such as Samsung Electronics, SK Group, GS, LG Electronics, KT, LG Uplus, Doosan Enerbility, FuriosaAI, and Hanwha Qcells.
The announcement comes amidst a challenging economic environment in South Korea, with the strong US dollar, net outflows of the South Korean won, and the 'reverse kimchi' effect all occurring simultaneously. The government's move is expected to have a positive impact on the economy, but the crypto market may not directly benefit from it.
