Cryptocurrency Sector Sees Lowest Monthly Loss Since March 2025

Cryptocurrency security has shown signs of improvement as the sector reports its lowest monthly loss to cyberattacks since March 2025.

The $37.7 million loss in February 2026 is a significant decrease from previous months, with no major incidents driving up the total.

Several notable incidents contributed to the loss, including a private key compromise of the ioTube cross-chain bridge, which resulted in a loss of approximately $8.9 million for IoTeX.

Phishing incidents alone accounted for roughly $8.5 million of the monthly total.

However, the frequency of address poisoning attacks has reached record highs, with over one million attempts occurring every day on the Ethereum network.

Experts recommend taking precautions to prevent such attacks, including whitelisting pre-approved addresses and verifying every single character of an address or using Ethereum Name Service (ENS) names.
