FIA Establishes Cryptocurrency Investigation Unit in Pakistan
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Pakistan has established a cryptocurrency investigation unit to prevent money laundering and terrorism financing through virtual currency transactions.
FIA Counter-Terrorism Wing Director Dr. Muhammad Athar Waheed said that the new unit will probe the possible use of digital assets in crimes, while the newly established Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) regulates digital assets.
The official also suggested that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) should establish similar units to tackle the use of cryptocurrency for cybercrimes and drug-related business.
