Jellico City Council to Review Zoning Ordinance for Bitcoin Mining
The Jellico Board of Mayor and Aldermen will discuss bitcoin mining at its June 18 meeting. Cleanspark Bitcoin Mining is on the agenda, and the board will consider amending the city's zoning ordinance to add data mining with restrictions in the I-1 Industrial District as a permitted use.
Brian Pitts spoke at the Jellico Municipal Planning Commission meeting on June 2 about the importance of following proper procedures. He was referring to an ordinance that had already been approved by the planning commission more than a year ago but still needed two readings and one hearing from city council before being finalized.
Planner Joe Barrett noted that while this ordinance may not correct past issues, it would address future operations like bitcoin mining. Jellico Mayor Sandy Terry recommended sending the ordinance to city council for review, and all planning commission members voted in agreement.
