Kanchanaburi Shop House Fire Exposes Huge Bitcoin Mining Scam

A fire broke out in a Kanchanaburi shop house on Wednesday evening, exposing an illegal Bitcoin mining operation.

The blaze started at around 8.20pm and was brought under control within 30 minutes by firefighters from the Kanchanaburi Municipality.

Upon entering the charred third floor, officers discovered over 20 severely damaged computers and cryptocurrency mining rigs.

A subsequent investigation revealed that the room had been heavily modified with large commercial air conditioners and extensive soundproofing foam to conceal the operation.

The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) estimated that the site's actual electricity consumption was between 100,000 and 200,000 baht per month, despite occupants paying only 1,000 baht a month for their electricity bills.
