NC Governor Signs 17 New Laws, Including Crypto ATM Regulations

North Carolina Governor Josh Stein signed 17 new laws into effect, including regulations for cryptocurrency ATMs and changes to property tax laws.

The laws will require crypto ATMs to provide fraud warnings, set transaction limits, and cap service fees at 12% of a transaction's value. This is in response to the state losing over $12 million in fraudulent activities involving these kiosks.

Stein stated that the law 'protects people from fraud when they use virtual currency kiosks,' requiring licensing and regulation under state law, placing limits on daily transactions, and providing scam alert signs, live customer service, receipts for transactions, and the ability to cancel a transaction in progress.

The new transportation laws define three classes of electric bicycles and allow their use on roads, bicycle lanes, and paths. Local governments can regulate their use within municipal limits.
