Ethereum's Minimmit Proposal Gains Momentum Amid Emerging New Cryptocurrencies in 2026
Ethereum's co-founder Vitalik Buterin has thrown his weight behind the Minimmit proposal, a significant upgrade to the Ethereum network. The Minimmit system would replace the current two-round Casper FFG finality mechanism with a single round block confirmation process.
This change is expected to finalize blocks faster and increase the censorship resistance threshold from 67% to 83% of staked ETH, making unilateral attacks on the network more difficult. The upgrade is part of Ethereum's broader Strawmap roadmap, which aims to achieve single-digit second finality by 2029.
New cryptocurrencies in 2026 are also gaining traction, with Pepeto emerging as a notable example. Developed by the founders of PEPE, a meme token that reached $7 billion before collapsing due to lack of infrastructure, Pepeto is designed to provide a DeFi layer for meme tokens and other cryptocurrencies.
