Cardano Transfers Core Components to Decentralized Firms
Cardano is taking a major step towards decentralization by transferring six core components of its software to independent specialist firms. This move, led by Input Output, will see the Haskell node, Plutus smart-contract platform, Daedalus wallet, Hydra layer-2 system, and Mithril stake-based signature protocol all transferred over the course of 2026 and 2027.
The components being handed over are crucial to the functioning of the Cardano network. The Haskell node is responsible for validating blocks and maintaining consensus on the chain, while Plutus allows developers to write smart contracts. Daedalus is the network's desktop wallet, and Hydra is designed to increase throughput by providing a layer-2 solution.
Input Output's CEO, Charles Hoskinson, expressed pride in this development, stating that it marks 'the last stage of the Voltaire era' - a period characterized by decentralization. The company will continue to focus on research and new ventures through IO Labs and IO Ventures.
