Coinbase Top Lawyer Steps Down as Advisory Role Looms

Coinbase is losing its top lawyer, but not entirely. Paul Grewal, the company's Chief Legal Officer, will step out of his day-to-day role on July 31 and move into an advisory position.

This change means Grewal won't be leading Coinbase's legal team anymore, but he'll still have a seat at the table through his continued work with the Board of Coinbase National Trust Company.

The absence of a named replacement is noteworthy, as the CLO role at a major crypto exchange isn't a soft gig. Whoever fills Grewal's chair will inherit all of the regulatory fights and battles that have defined Coinbase's history.

Grewal's future plans outside of Coinbase are unclear, but his move to an advisory role suggests he might be winding down or transitioning to something new.
