Aave's Borrowing Activity Plummets after Kelp DAO Exploit
Aave, one of the largest lending protocols in DeFi, experienced a significant disruption after the Kelp DAO exploit. According to on-chain data, borrowing activity across USDT, USDC, and WETH plummeted after the incident, indicating a fundamental shift in participant behavior.
The CryptoQuant report notes that the initial rate spikes during the crisis were mechanical, but the subsequent collapse of borrow event activity towards near-zero levels reflects participants choosing to step back entirely. The protocol's mechanics are intact, but its functionality is compromised due to lack of confidence.
For Aave to recover, borrowing event activity and normalized rates must return, signaling genuine redeployment of capital. Until then, the data describes a protocol that has survived the shock structurally but has yet to regain participant confidence.
