Flare Labs' Hugo Philion Brings Smart Contracts to Legacy Assets
Hugo Philion is the co-founder and CEO of Flare Labs, the company behind Flare Network. He has a background in derivatives trading, having managed portfolios worth more than $1 billion before transitioning to blockchain development.
Philion graduated from Cass Business School with First Class Honors in 2010 and later earned a Master's degree in Machine Learning from University College London in 2018. During his time at UCL, he met his co-founders Sean Rowan and Nairi Usher.
Flare Network is designed to bring smart contract functionality to assets like XRP, Bitcoin, and Dogecoin that were not originally built for it. The network's FAssets system has processed over 150 million FXRP tokens by mid-2026, with a goal of routing as much as 5 billion XRP through the network.
