Block's Square Payments Platform Automatically Enables Bitcoin for Eligible US Sellers
Block's Square payments platform has introduced a new feature that automatically enables Bitcoin payments for eligible US sellers. This change marks a shift from an opt-in to an opt-out model, where merchants will now receive USD as the default settlement currency when accepting Bitcoin payments.
The new system is expected to significantly expand mainstream Bitcoin payment adoption. Block's CEO Jack Dorsey has been a proponent of cryptocurrency adoption and has led the company towards various Bitcoin initiatives. Under the new feature, merchants retain control over the option to accept Bitcoin payments and can opt out or adjust settings if desired.
The automatic enablement represents a strategic shift in how payment processors approach cryptocurrency integration. Block's move from requiring merchants to actively choose Bitcoin acceptance to making it a default option is seen as a significant development in the space.
