Solana has signed an agreement to support Kazakhstan's Alatau City crypto initiative. The Nasdaq-listed crypto treasury firm will back blockchain infrastructure and a planned crypto pilot zone in the digital-first megacity.
The agreement adds to Kazakhstan's growing links with the Solana ecosystem, following last year's launch of Central Asia's first Solana Economic Zone in Astana with the Solana Foundation. Alatau City Authority CEO Alisher Abdykadyrov said the agreement also includes participation in the Alatau Crypto Cluster.
The project, which remains largely in the planning and early development stage, aims to be a smart city built with artificial intelligence, digital identity, and blockchain technology from the beginning. The plan still faces policy and infrastructure hurdles, including constitutional changes needed for a crypto-based economy.
