FingerMotion Eyes AI Compute Facility in Western Canada
FingerMotion, Inc., a mobile services and data technology company, is in advanced discussions with BlueFlare Energy Solutions to develop its first behind-the-meter AI compute facility in Western Canada. The proposed site will be an approximately 600 kilowatt (kW) facility in Alberta that currently uses natural gas to power bitcoin mining operations.
Under the planned redevelopment, BlueFlare would install new on-site power generation, battery energy storage, and high-performance computing capacity while retaining the existing bitcoin mining load as a load-balancing mechanism. The AI inference workload will be the primary value driver at the site, with co-located bitcoin mining used to keep generated power productive when demand is low.
The parties are working towards commercial terms for the project, which will allow for accelerated time-to-energization and reduced emissions through the use of propane-powered backup generation. The facility's design enables wireless connection to AI inference workloads via BlueFlare's proprietary bandwidth-optimization technology, eliminating the need for grid interconnection or fiber construction.
