Trump's Crypto Czar Resigns Amid Limited Impact

David Sacks has concluded his tenure as the 'Crypto Czar' after a 130-day stint, effectively ending Trump's involvement in cryptocurrency. As the White House lead on AI and cryptocurrency matters, Sacks was tasked with advancing a clear legal framework for the industry to thrive.

During his time, Sacks achieved some notable successes, including banning Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), convening the first White House Crypto Summit, and establishing the U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Act. However, these efforts were largely symbolic, lacking concrete outcomes that would benefit the industry.

The GENIUS Act, which established a federal-level framework for dollar-denominated stablecoins, is arguably Sacks' most significant achievement. Nevertheless, the CLARITY Act, its twin bill, remains stuck in negotiations between banks and the crypto industry, with concerns that it may favor banks over the industry.

With Sacks' departure as 'Crypto Czar', Trump's interest in cryptocurrency appears to have waned. As Co-Chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, Sacks will continue working on AI policy and technology strategy, no longer mentioning crypto in his role.
