Age Verification Wave Hits Web3: Developers Scramble to Adapt

The tipping point for age verification in Web3 has arrived, with Texas's App Store Accountability Act (SB 2420) taking effect on June 4, 2026. This law requires app stores to collect and share an 'age category' with developers, which can then be used to implement parental-consent workflows.

Industry groups have petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to halt Texas's law, but in the meantime, developers are scrambling to adapt to this new reality. Web3 games and wallets will need to integrate age-verification checks into their systems, which may involve requesting age categories via app store APIs or implementing consent rails without doxxing users.

Wallets can implement 'consent tokens' that encode scopes and an expiry date, allowing parents to approve or revoke access to certain features or actions. Guardians can also be linked to smart accounts, requiring co-signature on out-of-scope actions.
