Meta Rolls Out Stablecoin Payments for Content Creators in Select Markets

Meta has taken a significant step into digital currency payments with the introduction of USDC stablecoin payments for content creators in Colombia and the Philippines. This move marks a departure from Meta's previous cryptocurrency ventures, such as the rebranded Diem initiative, which was terminated in 2022 due to regulatory concerns.

The new program allows qualified creators to receive their earnings in Circle’s USDC stablecoin, distributed through either the Solana or Polygon blockchain infrastructure. Payment processing is handled by Stripe, which also provides necessary tax documentation for the creators.

Notably, Meta has not integrated a native option for converting USDC to local fiat currencies, requiring creators to utilize third-party cryptocurrency exchanges for conversion. The program's expansion to over 160 countries is planned, as announced by Polygon.
