Ethereum's Privacy Push Hinges on Missing Key Element

A developer on X, Ameen Soleimani, has expressed concerns over the Ethereum team's hesitation to implement the Poseidon precompile. This precompile is a built-in, low-cost function that would significantly reduce gas fees on Ethereum and make private transactions more practical.

According to Soleimani, the Poseidon hash function has been available on other blockchains such as Solana, Starknet, and Stellar since 2020-2022. He argues that the Ethereum community's emphasis on 'privacy by default' is inconsistent with their refusal to implement this necessary technical upgrade.

Soleimani notes that the team at Starknet offered assistance to the Ethereum chain but was waved off. He believes that Ethereum has a privacy gap and that implementing Poseidon would be a crucial step in addressing it.
