ETH Foundation-Funded Program Unveils DPRK-Linked Presence in Web3

The Ethereum Foundation's ETH Rangers program has been instrumental in bolstering the security of the Web3 ecosystem. One such initiative, funded through this program, aimed to tackle a pressing operational security threat facing the Ethereum ecosystem.

The Ketman Project, as it is known, identified 100 North Korean IT workers embedded within Web3 companies and alerted about 53 projects to potential DPRK involvement. This revelation comes on the heels of repeated threats from state-backed actors tied to North Korea, which have contributed significantly to losses in the crypto sector.

The Ketman Project's findings are expected to inform and shape security strategies across the industry. By mapping specific operational patterns and distributing defensive signals to projects, the initiative helps reduce the attack surface for startups and established protocols alike.
