The national average price for regular gasoline in the United States has crossed the $4-per-gallon threshold, reaching $4.003 per gallon on July 20, 2026.
This increase is largely due to renewed tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway through which a significant share of global oil passes daily.
Crude oil prices have risen toward $80 per barrel, pushing pump prices up with them. The last time gasoline prices sat below $4 was partly because earlier concerns about Hormuz had eased.
Crypto investors should pay attention to oil prices as they can impact inflation expectations and central bank decisions on interest rates.
