Iran's Bitcoin Mining Hashrate Plummets Amid Regional Conflict
The recent decline in Iran's bitcoin mining hashrate is a significant development in the crypto market. According to a report from Hashrate Index, Iran lost around 7 EH/s of its hashrate quarter over quarter, bringing its total down to approximately 2 EH/s.
This decline coincided with escalating tensions between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other, resulting in airstrikes and retaliation in the region. The conflict has had a direct impact on mining operations in Iran, forcing many older units with efficiency above 25 J/TH to shut down due to shrinking margins.
The neighboring countries of the United Arab Emirates and Oman were not affected by this decline, maintaining their steady hashrate levels. The global network absorbed the loss without any disruption to its overall performance, with the total hashrate remaining near 1,000 EH/s.
