DeFi Security Debate: Industry Leaders Push Back Against 'All-Unsafe' Claims
Decentralized finance (DeFi) has been at the center of intense scrutiny in recent weeks following Openzeppelin co-founder Manuel Aráoz's warnings that DeFi is entirely unsafe. While Aráoz's concerns have sparked a debate over DeFi security, industry leaders argue that his framing overstates the risk.
According to 0G Labs CEO Heinrich, DeFi lending security has improved by approximately 98% since 2020. This improvement is attributed to several factors, including markedly reduced daily loss rates on major lending protocols, which now stand at around 0.001%. Heinrich notes that this improvement undercuts Aráoz's claims that all DeFi is unsafe.
Fan of Cysic, Leo Fan, echoes a similar sentiment. He argues that the framing of DeFi as entirely unsafe undermines the credibility of a message that has a real core. Instead, he advocates for using data to support warnings about DeFi security rather than relying on dramatic language.
