Crypto has become the most-muted topic on X, surpassing other popular subjects such as politics and sports. According to Nikita Bier, the platform's head of product, this shift is likely due to the increasing presence of artificial intelligence (AI) content, also known as 'AI slop.'
The snooze feature, introduced in April 2026, allows Premium subscribers to hide topics from their For You feed for 24 hours. Bier described the tool as a way for users to 'crank up or turn down the slop,' referring to the abundance of low-quality content on the platform.
This development comes after X changed its API policies in January to restrict apps that paid users to post, aiming to reduce AI-generated spam and low-quality content. The move was part of a broader effort to improve the user experience and mitigate the spread of 'InfoFi' apps that rewarded engagement.
