Binance Returns to Philippines through Regulatory Sandbox Partnership
Binance's decision to return to the Philippines marks a significant shift in its approach to operating in emerging markets. After being forced out by regulators in 2023, the exchange has partnered with BlockShoals to operate under the country's Securities and Exchange Commission sandbox framework.
The sandbox program will provide Binance with a controlled environment to test its compliance systems and navigate local regulations. This approach is expected to begin in the second half of 2026 and will run for at least two years, allowing regulators to monitor operations and assess risks associated with digital asset services.
The partnership between Binance and BlockShoals reflects a broader trend in the cryptocurrency industry, where exchanges are increasingly prioritizing cooperation over confrontation when dealing with regulatory challenges.
