Solana Enhances Quantum Security with Falcon Digital Signature Scheme

The Solana Foundation has taken a significant step towards enhancing the security of its blockchain against quantum computing threats by selecting Falcon as the post-quantum digital signature scheme.

Two independent research teams, led by Anza and Jump Crypto's Firedancer team, evaluated various options for improving the network's resistance to quantum attacks. Despite not coordinating with each other during their respective research efforts, both teams concluded that Falcon is the most suitable choice due to its compact signatures.

Falcon was chosen specifically because of its ability to provide high-throughput blockchains like Solana with efficient digital signature schemes without sacrificing performance. The Solana Foundation has stated that network performance will not be significantly impacted during a potential migration to Falcon.
