Trump's Memecoin Crashes, Leaving Hundreds of Thousands with $3.8 Billion in Losses
The TRUMP memecoin, introduced just three days before former President Donald Trump's inauguration in January 2025, has seen an astronomical decline of over 97% from its all-time high of $73 per token. The price now stands at approximately $1.70.
According to blockchain analytics provider Nansen, a staggering 988,905 digital wallets, representing two-thirds of all participants, experienced financial losses totaling $3.81 billion by June 2026. In contrast, approximately 500,000 early and knowledgeable investors secured massive profits, collecting a total of $4 billion in earnings.
The TRUMP memecoin's design enabled Trump to generate revenue through transaction fees independent of price fluctuations. The former president actively promoted the cryptocurrency on his Truth Social platform, further fuelling its initial success.
