Circle Prepares USDC Stablecoin for Quantum Computer Threat
Circle has taken proactive steps to prepare its USDC stablecoin for the potential threat of quantum computers. The company's three-phase plan, outlined in a recent whitepaper, focuses on ensuring user asset security and recovery in case of a breach.
The readiness phase will identify exposed systems, followed by a transition period where new cryptography is integrated alongside existing protocols. This will be followed by a final migration phase, which may involve retiring classical signature schemes altogether.
Arc, Circle's forthcoming blockchain network, will feature built-in defenses against quantum attacks, including SLH-DSA signatures and post-quantum encrypted communications. The company has also proposed measures for upgrading live contracts to accept both old and new signatures, allowing holders to migrate at their own pace.
