Solana Co-founder Stresses Importance of Quantum Resistance in Ethereum L2 Rollups
Concerns have been raised about the security of Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) rollups following a warning from Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko.
In a recent post on X, Yakovenko emphasized that Ethereum L2s are not quantum safe, sparking debate about their long-term viability as financial infrastructure.
The issue at hand is the potential vulnerability of blockchain signatures to powerful quantum computers. If such computers become practical, they could break current public-key cryptography, posing a significant threat to the security of Ethereum L2 rollups.
Solana, on the other hand, has been actively working towards addressing this concern through its post-quantum signature scheme, Falcon. The network's development teams have been testing and refining Falcon as a compact option for high-throughput blockchain use.
