Binance CZ Critiques Hyperliquid's Decentralized Claims
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao recently spoke about Hyperliquid's decentralized derivatives platform, expressing both admiration and skepticism.
Zhao praised Hyperliquid for validating a new niche in crypto derivatives and acknowledged that its no-KYC model had attracted large trading volumes by combining the user experience of a centralized exchange with transparency features associated with decentralized finance.
However, he questioned the platform's decentralization claims, arguing that a small team still retains significant control despite using smart contracts for deposits and withdrawals.
Zhao's comments highlight a growing debate around what decentralization means for high-performance derivatives exchanges. Critics argue that speed, product development, validator structure, governance, and operational control still depend heavily on a concentrated group of contributors.
