Ukraine Secures Control of Seized Crypto Worth Over $8M
The Ukrainian government has taken control of over $8.3 million in cryptocurrency for the first time, marking a significant milestone in the country's efforts to manage seized digital assets.
The funds, worth more than $8.3 million in Tether stablecoins (USDT), were seized from an alleged member of an international hacking group that carried out attacks on individuals and companies in Europe and the US.
The total value of seized assets in the case is estimated to be around $11.1 million, including residential properties, apartments, cars, and cash.
This development comes as Ukraine discusses creating a strategic crypto reserve, with officials holding roughly $2.8 billion in Bitcoin (BTC). The country legalized virtual assets in 2022 and is now advancing a bill on taxation and market regulation to EU standards.
