Cardano Transfers Core Development to Partner Firms

Cardano is embarking on a major decentralization push by handing core development to independent firms. From August, Input Output will transfer six key components of the Cardano network to partner companies.

The components include the Haskell node, which validates blocks and keeps the chain in consensus; Plutus, the platform for smart contracts; Daedalus, the desktop wallet; Hydra, a layer-2 system for increased throughput; Mithril, a stake-based signature protocol that speeds up node syncing; and developer relations.

According to Input Output's engineering roadmap, this decentralization effort will run into 2027. The company plans to name each partner as agreements are finalized, but has not yet disclosed the names of the companies involved.

Input Output's CEO and Cardano founder, Charles Hoskinson, said he is 'extremely proud' that the company has reached this stage in its decentralization efforts. He noted that IO Labs will be spinning out the Haskell node to community curation and control.
