UK Gambling Commission Explores Crypto Payments on Licensed Sites
The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) is considering the introduction of cryptocurrency payments on licensed gambling sites in the United Kingdom.
This move is part of a broader effort by the UKGC to combat illegal gambling, which has increased significantly in recent years. According to the commission, 9% of Britain's £8.2bn online market is now accounted for by unlicensed operators.
The executive director of the UKGC, Tim Miller, noted that there is a growing appetite among punters for gambling with cryptocurrency, and that illegal sites are using this as a way to circumvent blocks and geo-restrictions.
